I am Aino Kalske, a senior lecturer in the Department of Biology at the University of Turku. My research focuses on the intricate ecological and evolutionary dynamics between plants and their environment, including interactions with herbivores, pollinators, and the soil microbiota. I am particularly interested in understanding how these interactions shape plant defense strategies, community succession, and the success of invasive species.
My work often employs a combination of field experiments, molecular techniques, and chemical analyses to unravel the mechanisms driving these complex relationships. Recent publications have explored topics such as the role of soil microbiota in plant population growth, the impact of herbivory on plant defense across successional stages, and volatile-mediated plant-plant communication.
